Senior compliance manager and deputy MLRO at Genting UK, George McCann, was named Compliance Officer of the Year at the inaugural Gambling Compliance Global Regulatory Awards.

The awards, which were held in celebration of the 10th anniversary of GamblingCompliance, took place on April 25th and were attended by more than 300 people from across the gambling industry.

Throughout the evening both businesses and individuals were recognised for their achievements across the fields of compliance, responsible gambling and social responsibility.

In winning the award, McCann – and the wider Genting team – was recognised for his ability to implement industry regulations effectively and safeguard the wellbeing of customers through the delivery of comprehensive responsible gambling initiatives. Also shortlisted within the category were senior individuals from NetEnt, Sky Betting & Gaming and Kindred.

Prior to the award winners being chosen, each entry was assessed by an independent panel of judges with a wealth of knowledge on the gambling industry. Those entries which displayed the best evidence of delivering above and beyond the standard required, in relation to compliance and responsible gambling, were awarded one of the 13 accolades handed out on the night.

On winning the award, McCann said: “I am delighted to be recognised in this way and I accept the award on behalf of the entire team at Genting UK.

“As a business, we firmly believe that it is our responsibility to lead by example when it comes to adherence to regulations and industry codes, as well as responsible gambling, something which is at the very core of Genting’s ethos and operation. As such, we have invested significantly to ensure that the training we offer our staff, the systems we implement and the processes we put in place all deliver on our ongoing objective, and that is to provide the safest, most secure environment in which to gamble. It is therefore a testament to the commitment and dedication of our team that we have been recognised for our efforts in this area.”

Hosted by TV star Hugh Dennis, the Gambling Compliance Global Regulatory Awards were organised in association with GambleAware. GamblingCompliance has already announced plans to host a further event in 2018, which will offer even greater opportunity for individuals operating within the field of regulatory compliance and responsible gambling to receive the recognition they deserve.
